Recently, Salim was a partner in Alpenio, a 40 Gb/s fiber optic data transmission startup. Alpenio was recently sold to Samtec to broaden its products in the super-computing field. Salim’s other investments include a pharma fund with Alta Partners and he consults for Bay area venture partnerships. Salim was CTO for United Cable Co. an internet and video distribution startup owned by KIPCO, a Kuwaiti holding company, and VP marketing for Chromux, an optical add-drop switch company. Previously Salim founded ORCA, a DWDM fiber optics company then joined Ditech Communications in 1995, where he became VP Engineering and Development for fiber optical products. Ditech Communications became a public co. in 1999. Salim previously held engineering, R&D and management positions at SDL, Raychem, Litton Guidance and Control and the University of Southern California. Salim earned a PhD in Engineering and Applied Science from Yale( ’79) and sat on the Yale Graduate School Development Board from ‘02 to ’06.
