Joe McDonough is Co-founder and General Partner of Barrington Partners, seed stage venture capital investors and consultants. He has ten years of early stage private equity experience beginning with a Series-A investment in E-loan in 1997. The company went public in 1999, sustained a market capitalization in excess of $500M, and was subsequently acquired.

Building on the success of this investment, Joe guided Barrington’s entry into other web based real estate companies including: zipRealty (residential real estate brokerage) and AppraisalHub (residential and commercial appraisal services.) ZipRealty went public in late 2005, remains independent, and is traded under the NASDAQ symbol: ZIPR. Barrington’s investment in AppraisalHub was re-purchased by company management.

Prior to 1998, Joe was Director of North American Distribution Sales and Marketing for Altera Corporation. Under Joe’s direction, distribution channel sales grew from $20 million in 1990 to over $400 million in 1997 repeatedly recording the fastest channel sales growth among leading semiconductor firms. Joe authored Altera’s customer segmentation and service strategy for N. America and devised complimentary channel sales polices and procedures. By the end of Joe’s tenure at Altera, the firm’s channel management programs were widely copied by competitors.

Prior to Altera, Joe worked at Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and Monolithic Memories (MMI) in various roles including channel and product management. He began his career as a Research Associate at Bain & Company, in the firm's Menlo Park, California office.

Joe holds a BA from Harvard University (1981) and an MBA from the Haas School at U.C. Berkeley (1985). He is a citizen of the United States and Ireland. He is married, has two school-age children, and resides in Belmont, California in an 80-year old Tudor revival home that provides a lot of reasons to visit the hardware store. Joe took up digital photography in 1998, and over the years, has become an accomplished portrait and landscape photographer.
